Remmel’s record-setting throw highlights weather-shortened Alumni Muster

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Marilis Remmel broke her own school record in the javelin to highlight action for the UTSA track & field teams in a weather-shortened Alumni Muster on Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

Remmel's record-setting performance came before thunderstorms rolled into Aggieland and forced a delay that turned into a cancelation of the remainder of the meet, including all of the track events. Eight field events were completed before the decision was made to call off competition for the day.

Remmel, a freshman from Estonia, bettered her own UTSA standard with a javelin throw of 47.65 meters (156-4) to finish first among collegiate competitors and second overall behind Ari Ince (52.06m/170-9). After opening with a 42.12m measurement, she unleashed her record heave on her second attempt to improve her previous record of 45.44m set last month at this same facility at the Texas A&M Team Invitational.

Sigrid Kleive, who previously owned the school record of 45.51m set in March at the UTSA Invitational, placed fifth among collegians with a mark of 41.42m (135-2).

On the men's side, Sam Healy led a quartet of Roadrunners who finished in the top eight in the long jump.

Healy leaped 7.58m (24-10.5) to secure silver, while Jack Turner was close behind in third with a jump of 7.53m (24-8.5). Christie Le Roux measured 7.27m (23-10.25) to place fifth overall and fourth among collegians and Joel McFarlane took eight overall with a mark of 7.06m (23-2).

In the women's long jump. Oreoluwa Adamson broke the sand at a distance of 6.06m (19-10.75) on her second trip down the runway to earn fifth place.

The Roadrunners are scheduled to take next weekend off before traveling to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee on May 13-16.
