UTSA to travel to Houston for J. Fred Duckett Twilight

SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off a solid performance at the Roadrunner Invitational last week, the UTSA track & field teams will travel to Houston for the J. Fred Duckett Twilight on Saturday, April 24, at Wendel D. Ley Track.

The meet will get underway at 9:30 a.m. with field events, while running events are slated to start at 3 p.m.

The Roadrunners won six events in their last outing on April 15-17 at the Roadrunner Invitational at Park West Athletics Complex.

Bashiru Abdullahi raced to a wind-aided time of 13.61 seconds in cruising to victory in the men's 110-meter hurdles, clocking the fastest time recorded under any conditions in school and meet history. The sophomore from Nigeria was named Conference USA Male Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this year for his league-leading time.

The men also swept the horizontal jumps with Sam Healy leading a 1-2 finish in the long jump and Grant Szalek grabbing gold in the triple.

Healy remained undefeated on the outdoor season with a season-best leap of 7.64 meters (25-0.75), while Christie Le Roux secured silver with a season-best leap of 7.54m (24-9).

Meanwhile, Szalek leaped away with the triple jump title, skipping to a collegiate personal-best mark of 15.84 meters (51-11.75), which places him second on UTSA's all-time performers list.

The women also claimed three gold medals last weekend.

Abby Balli registered her second straight victory in the women's 1,500m by passing UTEP's Ruth Jerubet in the final 20 meters to cross the finish line first with a time of 4:39.48.

Oreoluwa Adamson posted her first collegiate win in the long jump, breaking the sand at a distance of 6.25m (20-6.25) to also leap into the No. 4 position on the program's all-time performers list.

Adamson paced a 1-2 finish by UTSA, as 2021 C-USA Indoor champion Ingeborg Gruenwald was second with a 6.20m (20-4.25) effort.

Sigrid Kleive collected the other win for the Roadrunners with a throw of 44.90m (147-4) in the javelin.
