Roadrunners edge out Islanders in regular season finale

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-3 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
 
"Great win for us today," head coach Ki Kroll said. "We got off to a good start winning the doubles point and carried a lot of energy into singles. I was very proud of our ladies."
 
The Roadrunners started out strong winning the doubles point. Duo Jasmin Starr and Keegan McCain defeated their opponent 6-3 at No. 2, followed by Aleksandra Zlatarova and Sophie Omoworare topping their opponent 6-3 as well to garner the point.
 
The Islanders tied the match, 1-1, after taking the first singles point at No. 4. UTSA won the next three points to clinch the match. At No. 3, Alexandra Weir edged out her opponent 6-4, 6-3 as the Roadrunners led 2-1. McCain defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Zlatarova upended her opponent at No. 2, 6-3, 7-5 to clinch. TAMUCC won the final two points at No. 6 and No. 1, respectively.
 
The Roadrunners finished the season 9-10 overall and are set for the Conference USA Championship April 22-25 in Denton, Texas.
