Abdullahi, Roberson headline Saturday action at Texas Relays

AUSTIN — Bashiru Abdullahi won the Invitational section of the men's 110-meter hurdles and Faith Roberson broke the school record in the women's 400m hurdles to headline Saturday action for the UTSA track & field teams at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Competing in his first outdoor race as a Roadrunner, Abdullahi peeled off a wind-aided time of 13.84 seconds to beat Houston's Dayo Akindele (13.93) to the finish line by .09 seconds. The two-time Conference USA medalist in the 60m hurdles moved into a tie for the No. 4 spot on UTSA's all-time performers list with today's performance. An honorable mention All-American and 2019 Big West Conference champion in 2019 at Cal State Northridge, he is now knotted with Carl Johnson for fourth on the program's list led by Keyunta Hayes' school-record time of 13.67 set in 2012.

Roberson raced to the fastest time ever recorded by a Roadrunner in the 400m hurdles to log a third-place finish. The Wall, Texas, native clocked a 57.54 while running in lane eight to eclipse the record set by Alanah Yukich just one week ago at the UTSA Invitational. Roberson finished behind a pair of LSU runners in the final, which came two days after she posted a 59.03 in the first round.

Meanwhile, Yukich continued her early outdoor-season success by posting a third-place finish in the Invitational section of the women's 400m hurdles. The Perth, Australia, native clocked a 58.78 to finish as the top collegian behind Sparkle McKnight of Trinidad & Tobago (57.27) and Melissa Gonzalez of Colombia (58.69).

Andrew Pirog, the reigning C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week, earned a spot in the men's 400m hurdles Invitational section and matched his two teammates with a third-place performance of his own. The senior from San Antonio Reagan High School circled in 53.13 to place behind Amere Lattin of ADIDAS (49.99) and Quivell Jordan of Houston (50.50).

In the field, Maia Campbell nearly took down the school record in the women's shot put with a personal-best measurement of 15.37m (50-5.25). Her 10th-place mark was only two centimeters short of Zaquita McClanahan's school record of 15.39m set in 2013.

Grant Szalek skipped to a mark of 15.01 meters (49-3) in the 'B' section of the men's triple jump to place fifth.

The Roadrunners will return to action on April 9-10 when they travel to College Station for the Texas A&M Team Invitational.
