Abdullahi collects fourth career C-USA weekly award

DALLAS — UTSA junior Bashiru Abdullahi has been named Conference USA Indoor Male Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 6, the league office announced Wednesday.

Abdullahi matched his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.80 seconds to finish third in College Station, equaling the UTSA standard he set three times in 2020, including in a winning performance at the same meet last February. The Benin City, Nigeria, native clocked a 7.88 in the prelims before matching his own PR in the final to narrowly place behind the LSU duo of Damion Thomas (7.72) and Eric Edwards Jr. (7.78). The defending C-USA Indoor champion's conference-leading time currently is in a tie for eighth nationally.

Abdullahi now has collected two C-USA weekly awards this season and four during his two-year career as a Roadrunner. This also marks the fourth time a UTSA athlete has been recognized this season, as Chante Dixon was named C-USA Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 3 and Ingeborg Gruenwald was tabbed C-USA Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 20.

The Roadrunners are off this weekend before they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the C-USA Indoor Championship on Feb. 20-21.
