DMR, Le Roux headline UTSA action at H-Town SpeedCity Series II

HOUSTON — A win by the distance medley relay team and runner-up showing from Christie Le Roux headlined action for the UTSA men's track & field team on Saturday at the H-Town SpeedCity Series II at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
Michael Paredes, Caleb Devereaux, Cameron Hudson and JD Corona passed the baton to a winning time of 11:20.55 in the distance medley relay, giving the Roadrunners a sweep of the event following a gold-medal performance by the women on Friday.
 
Meanwhile, Le Roux led a 2-3 finish by the Roadrunners in the long jump. The freshman from South Africa leaped to season-best mark of 7.15 meters (23-5.5) on his sixth and final jump to move into second place.
 
Sam Healy collected the bronze medal in the long jump in his first meet as a Roadrunner, as the Ireland native measured 7.03m (23-0.75) on his second pass down the runway.
 
UTSA saw three other third-place finishes on the track on Saturday.
 
Gabriel Green clocked a time of 8.75 seconds for the bronze in the 60m hurdles, while Logan Masters crossed third in the 400m in 49.83.
 
Jake Smith led a quartet of Roadrunners in the 3,000m with third-place time of 8:59.83. Idol Ramon was fourth in 9:21.51, followed by Josh Gonzalez and Omar Beckdache in fifth (9:25.38) and sixth (9:27.56), respectively.
 
Devereaux also finished fourth in the 800m in addition to helping the DMR grab gold. The senior from Pearland clocked a time of 2:00.63 in his first race of the season.
 
Smith also posted a fifth-place finish in the mile with a 4:29.82 clocking, while Paredes and Corona were sixth (4:31.07) and seventh (4:31.55).
 
Chante Dixon won the mile and anchored the distance medley relay to gold and Lacee Barnes finished third in the shot put with a record-setting performance to highlight action for the women on Friday.
 
Dixon clocked a time of 5:21.33 to win the mile run and combined with Zoie Reyna, Maddy Blair and Sofia Salinas to run a 13:17.04 for gold in the DMR.
 
Meanwhile, Barnes set a Cayman Islands national record in the shot put with her third-place mark of 14.70m (48-2.75),
 
The Roadrunners will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 6, when they travel to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
