Roadrunners set for Aggie Invitational on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will continue their indoor season when they travel to College Station for the Aggie Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The Roadrunners will line up against Baylor, Houston, TCU, Utah (women only) and host Texas A&M in their second meet of the young campaign. Field events are slated to begin with the women's shot put at 11:15 a.m., while running events will get underway with the women's 60-meter hurdles at 3:30 p.m.

UTSA is coming off a season-opening showing that saw the Roadrunners collect three gold medals at the H-Town SpeedCity Series in Houston last Saturday. Bashiru Abdullahi raced to victory in the men's 60m hurdles, Ingeborg Gruenwald leaped to top honors in the women's long jump and Noah Rhodes crossed first in the men's 400m.

Abdullahi was named Conference USA Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Gruenwald was tabbed C-USA Women's Field Athlete of the Week for their performances in Houston.

Abdullahi, a native of Benin City, Nigeria, clocked a time of 7.91 seconds to advance out of the preliminary round as the top qualifier before posting a 7.93 for his fourth win in five total races in the 60m hurdles as a Roadrunner. The defending C-USA champion and school record-holder currently owns the top time in the league and he stands 12th nationally.

Gruenwald captured gold and silver medals in the horizontal jumps at the H-Town SpeedCity Series. The sophomore from Salzburg, Austria, measured 5.95m (19-6.25) on her third attempt to win the long jump and came back later in the day to secure a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.44m (37-6.5). She currently paces C-USA in the long jump and stands second in the triple jump.
