House in contention after opening day of Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. — UTSA senior Adam House is tied for second place and the men's golf team is in 12th after the first day of the Arizona Intercollegiate, which got underway on Monday.
 
House is part of a three-way tie for second at 5-under par after posting a 68-69—137 on the 7,292-yard, par-71, Sewailo Golf Club layout. He is only one shot off the pace of 6-under set by Arizona's Trevor Werbylo in the 84-man field.
 
A senior from Rockwall, Texas, House opened the 54-hole event with a 3-under 68 that was highlighted by six birdies, three on each side. He came back in the afternoon to post a 69 that featured four more birdies, including three as part of a 32 on the front nine. House's 137 through two rounds marks his collegiate best and it is tied for the eighth-best 36-hole score in program history.
 
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are in 12th with a 592 after posting rounds of 293 and 299 during the opening day, which saw the second round suspended due to darkness with four teams still on the course. UTSA is six shots ahead of New Mexico State and 10 in front of Little Rock. The Roadrunners are nine strokes behind No. 44 Long Beach State for 10th place and only four back of Washington State. 
 
Collin Clark and Christian Fanfelle are part of a tie for 28th place at 3-over 145 to lead the UTSA lineup.
 
Clark, a senior from Mansfield, opened the tournament with a 1-over 72. His first-round scorecard included three birdies to help him turn in a 34 on the front side. The reigning Conference USA Men's Golf co-Scholar Athlete of the Year wrote down three more birdies in posting a 33 on the front en route to a 73 in the afternoon.
 
Fanfelle also posted a 72 in the first round that was headlined by two birdies and an eagle-three on the 593-yard eighth hole, which helped him record a 32 on the front nine. The San Antonio native turned in a 73 on the strength of four more birdies in the afternoon.
 
Chad Sewell is two back of his teammates and in a tie for 45th at 5-over 147. The junior from Conroe had a pair of birdies in each of his rounds, a 74 in the morning and a 73 in the afternoon.
 
Hunter Bott and Will Adams are in 78th (75-81—156) and 81st (79-80—159), respectively.
 
The second round will resume Tuesday morning followed immediately by the final 18 holes.
