Roadrunners wrap up competition at Ted Nelson Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Darionne Gibson's runner-up finish in the 400 meters highlighted a full day of activity for UTSA track & field at the Ted Nelson Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. 
 
A senior out of Converse Judson High School, Gibson placed second in the 400m with a time of 56.16, with her teammate Taylor Armstrong earning bronze in the 400m with a time of 57.38. 
 
In the long jump, Sigrid Klieve – a freshman out of Aalesund, Norway, finished second with a mark of 5.88m (19-3.5), while Ingeborg Gruenwald, a freshman from Salzburg, Austria, had a measurement of 5.74 (18-10) to finish third.
 
Maia Campbell, a senior from Converse's Judson High School, earned a runner-up finish in the weight throw with a 16.8m (55-1.5) measurement, with Campbell also placing fourth in the shot put with a 15.39m (50-6) mark. 
 
A sophomore from Brownsville, Texas, Sofia Salinas placed third in the 800m, owning a time of 2:16.47. Vera Chinedu and Olivia Esemena also had good days in the 60m to advance to the finals, with Esemena – a senior from Arlington, Texas – running a 7.61 to finish fourth and Chinedu, a sophomore from London, England, running a 7.67 (7.669) to finish sixth. 
 
The men were paced by Caleb Devereaux's third-place finish in the 800m, with the senior Pearland, Texas, native owning a time of 1:55.58. 
 
Brett Winnegan placed fifth in the long jump (7.03m; 23.75), with Jorge Ayala finishing fifth in the shot put (15.13m, 49-7.75). 
 
UTSA's women placed fourth in the team standings while the men placed seventh. 
 
UTSA returns to action on Friday, traveling to Houston for the FasTrak Invitational.
