Roadrunners move up leaderboard on final day of Maridoe Intercollegiate

CARROLLTON, Texas — Behind a 2-under-par round from Collin Clark, the UTSA men's golf team wrapped up the Maridoe Intercollegiate on a high note on Tuesday at Maridoe Golf Club (par 72/7,554 yards).
 
Clark posted a 70 to help the Roadrunners turn in a 296 on the final day, the second-best round in the field of 12 teams. UTSA moved up three spots on the leaderboard and into sole possession of ninth place with a 918 (308-314-296). The Roadrunners' final-round score was an 18-shot improvement from their previous round and it sent the Birds past Louisiana (931), UTEP (923) and Nebraska (919) and just four shots behind Washington in the team standings.
 
Clark recorded four birdies in matching his season-best round. Teeing off on No. 10, the senior posted a birdie on both par fives as part of a 1-under 35 on the back nine. The Mansfield native then wrote down a three on the 331-yard sixth hole and then birdied the 168-yard, par-3 eighth en route to a 35 on the front. The reigning Conference USA Men's golf Scholar Athlete of the Year finished in a tie for 29th (81-80-70—231).
 
Meanwhile, Christian Fanfelle was UTSA's top finisher, achieving a career-best finish after tying for 10th place with a 224. The sophomore registered a 75 in the final round on the strength of three birdies on a four-hole stretch on the back nine after opening the 54-hole event with a 72-77—149. The San Antonio native finished with a team-best 10 birdies — third most in the field — and played the par fives at 3-under par.
 
Adam House finished in a tie for 34th. The senior from nearby Rockwall carded a 77 on Tuesday that was highlighted by a birdie on the 431-yard, par-4 13th hole to close out a 232 (79-76-77).
 
Chad Sewell posted the second-lowest round of the day for the Roadrunners with a 2-over 74 that featured back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6-7 and a third on the 170-yard, par-3 14th. The junior from Conroe ended up in a tie for 40th with a 233 (78-81-74).
 
Hunter Bott rounded out the UTSA lineup in 61st (79-86-78—243).
 
SMU won the team crown with an 882, followed by runners-up Texas A&M and San Francisco (906). Noah Goodwin of SMU claimed the individual title with a 1-under 215.
 
The Roadrunners will return to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on Oct. 21-22 for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.
