Fanfelle in fourth after opening round of Maridoe Intercollegiate

CARROLLTON, Texas — Christian Fanfelle is in a tie for fourth place and the UTSA men's golf team is in ninth after the opening round of the Maridoe Intercollegiate on Sunday at Maridoe Golf Club (par 72/7,554 yards).

Fanfelle fired an even-par 72 and is one of three players knotted for fourth in the 66-man field. The sophomore registered four birdies — all on the back nine — and is two shots out of a tie for second place and four strokes off the pace set by Noah Goodwin of SMU.

A native of San Antonio, Fanfelle birdied the 641-yard, par-5 11th and 431-yard, par-4 13th holes before posting back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16-17 to highlight his season-best round.

Behind Fanfelle, the Roadrunners are in ninth place after posting a 308, one shot ahead of Nebraska and just two strokes behind San Francisco in the field led by No. 36 SMU (287).

Chad Sewell is the second-highest Roadrunner after turning in a 78 that featured a pair of birdies. The junior from Conroe, Texas, is tied for 38th place.

Hunter Bott and Adam House provided the other two counting scores for UTSA, as each posted a 79 to settle into a tie for 49th. Collin Clark rounded out the lineup with an 81 and is tied for 56th.

The second round is slated to get underway on Monday morning. The Roadrunners will tee off on No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
