Men's tennis to compete at Conference USA Championship this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team will look to continue this season's success at the Conference USA Championship, which will be played April 20-22 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston. The Roadrunners earned the No. 6 seed and will square off with third-seeded Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m. Friday in the opening round.

The winner will advance to face No. 2 seed Middle Tennessee or seventh-seeded Rice in the semifinals on Saturday.

UTSA (13-11) has won three of its last four matches, including back-to-back 4-3 victories against Lamar and UT Arlington. The Roadrunners also have more than doubled their win total from the 2017 campaign when they collected six triumphs.

Four UTSA players boast double-digit wins in singles action. Kai Breitbach and Joao Ceolin lead the way with 12 victories apiece. Javier Gonzalez has accumulated 11 wins, while Juri Reckow has defeated 10 opponents on the singles courts.

In last year's trip to the C-USA Tournament, the Roadrunners were eliminated by Rice, 4-0, in the opening round.

Three years ago, UTSA won the league's postseason tournament, topping Rice in the championship match, 4-2.

Florida Atlantic (17-9) enters the conference tournament on a five-match winning streak. The Owls have posted shutouts in their last four outings, including a 4-0 victory at North Florida last Saturday.

Friday's match will mark the first-ever meeting between UTSA and Florida Atlantic.
