April 25, 2006 Contact: Carlos Valdez III. UTSA's Josh Ruffin wins Aeropstale Pitcher of the week for the second time this year
PLANO - UTSA's Josh Ruffin helped the UTSA baseball team to wins over No. 5 Texas and Texas-Arlington to earn the Southland Conference baseball player of the week awards.
Last week, Ruffin (right) went 1-0 with a 0.75 earned run average, tossed 12 innings, scattered eight hits, struck out eight, walked two, allowed one run and held opponents to a .190 batting average. He also went the distance in the 7-0 win over Texas-Arlington, as he picked up his team-leading sixth win of the season and improved his mark to 6-1, including a 4-0 record in SLC play. Ruffin got the start in the upset win over then No. 5 Texas on April 18. He went three full innings against the Longhorns, allowed one run off two hits, fanned three and did not allow a walk. In the 7-0 win over UTA, he tossed his third shutout of the season and fourth complete game on the year, which leads the conference in both categories. Ruffin gave up six hits, struck out five batters, walked two and allowed no runs. The award is the second of the season for Ruffin.
UTSA jumps out of conference play with a single game against Big 12 foe Texas A&M Aggies on April 25 at Olsen Field, first pitch set for 7 p.m.
