SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos on Monday announced that Peter “Mac” Hart has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations.

"Mac brings with him a wealth of experience and will be a tremendous asset to us as our department's Chief Financial Officer with oversight of our business office, facilities and equipment areas. This is a critical position as we continue to provide a championship experience for each of our nearly 400 student-athletes as part of the American Athletic Conference. We are excited Mac and his wife Maureen have joined the Roadrunner Family."
A veteran of intercollegiate athletics for nearly three decades, Hart comes to San Antonio from James Madison, where he served as Assistant Athletics Director for Business & Finance for the past two years, managing a $65 million annual budget while developing a long-range financial plan to help guide JMU’s transition from FCS to FBS. He also has overseen budgets at numerous other departments, including UConn, Utah, Providence and East Tennessee State.

"Mike had plans to retire in December and I am very grateful to him for agreeing to stay on board this spring while we were in the process of identifying Mac for the role. I want to wish Mike a well-deserved retirement in California."
Prior to his time at JMU, Hart was the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Chief Financial Officer at East Tennessee State from 2014 to 2022. He managed the department’s annual budget and provided administrative sport oversight for cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and track & field. Additionally, he supervised the business, equipment, sports medicine and ticket office staffs.
Hart spent two years (2012-14) at Idaho State as Assistant Vice President for Finance & Administration. He provided administrative oversight, budget control and financial analysis for all non-academic aspects of the university, including athletics.
From 2003 to 2012, Hart was the Associate AD for Business and Compliance at Providence College. He served simultaneously as the chief compliance office and budget manager, and he developed the department’s long-range planning initiatives.
Hart got his start in the industry in 1986, the beginning of a two-year stint as business manager at William & Mary. He then joined the staff at UConn as Assistant AD for Finance in 1988. During his three years in Storrs, he oversaw business operations, travel, human resources and equipment, and he developed a new system of financial controls for the UConn Foundation.
Following his time at UConn, Hart headed West to be the Assistant AD for Development and Finance at Utah in 1991. Serving in that role until 1998, he created the “Scholarship Circle” endowed scholarship program and coordinated the Crimson Club annual fundraising and season ticket drives. He also oversaw the development, business, human resources and administrative staffs.
Hart was a senior associate AD at Hartford from 1998 to 2001 before serving as a special assistant to the president and athletics director at Albion College from 2001 to 2003 in advance of his time at Providence.
Hart earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northwestern in 1981 and a master’s degree in sport management from UMass in 1984 before completing the MBA program at Providence in 2007.
Hart and his wife Maureen have a daughter, Keegan, who is a research scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
