Q&A with UTSA Softball's Jaylen Prichard

Get to know UTSA softball student-athlete Jaylen Prichard in this Q&A.

Q: Why did you choose UTSA? 

Jaylen Prichard: "I chose UTSA because I wanted to be close to home so my family could watch me play for my last two years of softball. When I went on my visit, I loved the culutre and I knew I wanted to be a part of something big and upcoming like this softball program." 

Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA? 

Jaylen Prichard: "I love the people I get to be around every day. I appreciate all the support and care I get from my teammates, coaches and support staff. The people here make the challenges of college athletics so worth it." 

Q: How did you first get involved in playing softball? 

Jaylen Prichard: "I first started playing softball after I played baseball for two years. My hands were too small to hold on to a softball so my mom signed me up for baseball when I first wanted to start playing." 

Q: What are you majoring in and what do you hope to do following your athletic career? 

Jaylen Prichard: "My major is multidisciplinary studies. I want to own my own softball organization and coach a competitive team along with it. This summer I am coachin ga 12u team out of Segiun and hopefully that will jumpstart my career and ambitions. 

Q: What is an interesting fact about you that most people might not know? 

Jaylen Prichard: "A fun fact about me is that I must eat an extra-large Slim Jim before every game." 

Q: Who is the most influential person in your life? 

Jaylen Prichard: "My dad has been my rock all throughout my career and I wouldn't be the athlete or person I am without him. He's coached many of my teams early in my career and always pushed me past my limits and made me the woman that I am today." 

Q: Who is your sports role model? 

Jaylen Prichard: "When I was growing up, my idol was always Keilani Ricketts from Oklahoma. I wanted to hit just like her."
