Carreon, UTSA post top-10 finishes at Paradise Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Camryn Carreon tied for 10th place to guide the UTSA women's golf team to a tie for 10th at the Paradise Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Osprey Point Golf Club (par 72/6,404 yards).
 
Carreon entered the final round with a share of 15th after carding a 1-under-par 143 (71-72) through the first 36 holes. The senior from San Antonio posted her second 1-under 71 of the week on the final day to move into a tie for 10th at 2-under 214. She wrote down three birdies on Tuesday's scorecard and logged nine for the tournament en route to posting her second straight and 11th career top-10 finish.
 
The Roadrunners ended up in a deadlock with Colorado State for 10th at 16-over 880. UTSA carded rounds of 296, 290 and 294 and finished ahead of a pair of Big Ten teams in Wisconsin (13th/891) and Indiana (14th/902) and only one stroke behind Mercer for ninth place.
 
Daniela Abonce and Morgan Ellison finished in a tie for 41st at 7-over 223. 
 
After opening with a 78-73—151, Abonce, a freshman from Veracruz, Mexico, saved her best round of the event for last with an even-par 72 that was headlined by a trio of birdies.
 
Ellison, a sophomore who hails from Peachtree City, Georgia, registered rounds of 74, 73 and 76, the last of which featured a birdie on the ninth hole.
 
Olivia Williams was one shot behind her teammates in a tie for 46th at 8-over 224 (73-74-77), while Hunter Nugent carded a 226 (79-72-75) to place 53rd.
 
No. 19 Vanderbilt captured the team title with a 29-under 835, followed by No. 47 Nebraska (860), Missouri (862), BYU (869), USF (872) and Kennesaw State (872).
 
Florida Atlantic's Letizia Bagnoli claimed individual medalist honors with an 11-under 205 (66-66-73).
 
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Feb. 27-28 when they travel to the Golf Club of Houston for the ICON Invitational.
