Carreon continues NCAA Championships play on Saturday

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — UTSA junior and San Antonio native Camryn Carreon continued her record-setting season on Saturday at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor Course (par 72/6,384 yards).

Playing as the tournament's eighth-seeded individual and the first Roadrunner to advance this far in the NCAA postseason, Carreon posted a 6-over-par 78 in the second round of stroke play and stands in a tie for 56th at 7-over 151. She bounced back from a tough front nine with an even-par 36 on the back that featured birdies on two of her final six holes.

Teeing off from No. 1, Carreon had to settle for bogeys on three of her first five holes and a double bogey on the third. She recorded a three on the 334-yard, par-4 sixth to get back to 4-over for the round, but endured back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 8-9 to close out a 42 on the front.

Carreon rebounded from bogeys on the first two holes on the back with a par on the 12th followed by a birdie on the 156-yard, par-3 13th, a hole she aced during Thursday's practice round. She then wrote down four straight pars before capping the round with a four on the 467-yard, par-5 18th.

The third round is scheduled for Sunday and Carreon will tee off from No. 10 at 10:20 a.m. CT. Following Sunday's round, the top nine individuals not on one of the 15 advancing teams will move on to the final round on Monday to determine the 72-hole individual champion.
