UTSA moves up leaderboard on final day of Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Okla. — Led by a 3-under-par round from Hunter Nugent, the UTSA women's golf team moved two spots up the leaderboard and into eighth place on the final day of the Schooner Fall Classic on Monday at Belmar Golf Club (par 70/6,109 yards).

Nugent's 67 featured six birdies and was tied for the second-best round of the day to help the Roadrunners post a 3-over 283 in the final round. UTSA settled into eighth with an 866 (293-290-283), one shot ahead of Iowa State and two in front of Texas State in the 15-team field.

The Roadrunners were only four strokes behind host Oklahoma (862) and five back of sixth-place TCU (861) in the team race won by Oklahoma State (824) behind individual medalist Caley McGinty's 8-under 202 (67-67-68). Texas A&M (844), Baylor (848), Florida State (855) and Illinois (855) rounded out the top five.

Camryn Carreon led the Roadrunners by finishing in a tie for 21st at 4-over 214. The junior from San Antonio carded a final-round 71 on the strength of a trio of birdies after she opened with a 73-70—143 on Monday. A second-team All-Conference USA selection this past spring, she posted 11 birdies and played the par 3s at 2-under for the event.

Ana Gonzalez was two shots behind her teammate in a tie for 27th at 6-over 216. After recording a 74-70—144 on Monday, the senior from Mexico birdied five holes — including three straight on Nos. 4-6 — en route to a 72 on Tuesday. The four-time all-conference performer led the entire field with 14 birdies for the week.

Nugent used her 3-under final round to grab a share of 40th at 9-over 219 (78-74-67), while Hannah Holzmann ended up in a tie for 51st (70-79-73—222). Nicole Polivchak closed out the UTSA lineup in 75th (76-76-80—232).

The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 11-12 at the Dale McNamara Invitational in Tulsa, Okla.
