Carreon paces Roadrunners on first day of Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Okla. — Camryn Carreon is tied for 21st and the UTSA women's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of the Schooner Fall Classic, which got underway on Sunday at Belmar Golf Club (par 70/6,109 yards).
 
Carreon carded rounds of 73 and 70 and is sitting in a three-way tie for 21st at 3-over par with 18 holes left to play. The junior from San Antonio registered eight birdies on the day, including six during her even-par second round.
 
The Roadrunners are in 10th in the team standings at 290-293—583, two shots ahead of Tulsa and four in front of a tie between Houston and North Texas. UTSA stands just three strokes behind Iowa State and six back of host Oklahoma in the race led by Oklahoma State (549).
 
Ana Gonzalez has a share of 24th at 4-over 144. The senior from Mexico bounced back from a 74 in the opening round with an even-par 70 that was highlighted by five birdies, and the four-time all-conference performer leads the 81-player field with nine birdies for the tournament.
 
Hannah Holzmann wrote down three birdies as part of an opening-round 70 before posting a 79 in the afternoon, and the senior from San Antonio is in a tie for 53rd.
 
Hunter Nugent and Nicole Polivchak are in a tie for 64th to round out the UTSA lineup. Nugent recorded rounds of 78 and 74 and Polivchak posted a pair of 76s.
 
The final round is scheduled for Monday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 10 beginning at 9:40 a.m.
