Roadrunners race up leaderboard into third-place tie on Tuesday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Led by 1-under-par rounds from Camryn Carreon and Hannah Holzmann on Tuesday, the UTSA women's golf team raced up the leaderboard into a third-place tie on the final day of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Cherokee Country Club (par 71/5,946 yards).

Carreon and Holzmann — both San Antonio natives — each fired a 70 to help the Roadrunners post a 1-over 285 in the final round of the 54-hole event. UTSA moved from seventh place into a three-way tie for third with Augusta and Chattanooga at 12-over 864, two strokes ahead of host Tennessee (+14) and four in front of Texas Tech (+16). The Roadrunners were seven shots behind runner-up Miami (+5) in the 17-team event won by BYU (+2).

Holzmann was the top finisher for UTSA, tying for ninth place at 1-over 214. The all-conference performer, who led the field in par-5 scoring (-7), opened with a 2-under 69 and bounced back from a 75 on Monday afternoon with her 1-under-par round today that featured five birdies. It marked her fifth top-10 finish of the calendar year and eighth top 10 as a Roadrunner.

Carreon saved her best round of the event for last, using 15 pars and a pair of birdies en route to her 70 on Tuesday. An all-conference performer last season, she moved up 12 spots on the final day into a tie for 12th at 2-over 215 after opening with a 73-72—145.

A trio of Roadrunners tied for 32nd place at 7-over 220. Hunter Nugent carded rounds of 74, 73 and 73, Ana Gonzalez turned in scores of 74, 71 and 75 and Nicole Polivchak posted scorecards of 75, 73 and 72 to round out the UTSA lineup.

The Roadrunners will return to the course next Sunday-Monday, Sept. 26-27, when they travel to Norman for the Schooner Fall Classic.
