SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's golf team will look to capture its third straight Texas State Invitational team title on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 8-9, at Plum Creek Golf Course (par 72/6,249 yards) in Kyle.
The Roadrunners will compete against Central Arkansas, Houston, Houston Baptist, Idaho, Lamar, Little Rock, Rutgers, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Tulsa, UIW, ULM, UTRGV and Wichita State in the two-day, 54-hole event. The teams will play two rounds on Monday and the final round is scheduled for Tuesday with 8 a.m. shotgun starts slated for both days.
Hannah Holzmann won the individual crown to help lead UTSA to its second straight Texas State Invitational one year ago at Plum Creek. The San Antonio native fired a 3-under-par 213 (74-69-70) for s six-shot victory. In the team standings, UTSA and Sam Houston State finished in a deadlock atop the leaderboard, as each team posted an 896, but the Roadrunners were declared team champions by virtue of having the lower fifth score in each team's lineup for the final round.
Two years ago, Julie Houston's runner-up finish and top-10 showings by Madison Kidd and Ana Gonzalez led the Roadrunners to a school-record 854 scorecard and 20-stroke win ahead of Kansas State in the 2019 Texas State Invitational.
UTSA is coming off an eighth-place finish in the season-opening Trinity Forest Invitational last week in Dallas. Camryn Carreon tied for 11th place after carding a 6-over 222 (76-74-72) to lead the Roadrunners in a field of 14 teams that featured seven nationally ranked squads. The sophomore from San Antonio placed ahead of eight top-100 players and was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance.
