UTSA moves up on final day of Rebel Beach

LAS VEGAS — Led by top-15 finishes from Hannah Holzmann and Ana Gonzalez, the UTSA women's golf team moved up two spots on Tuesday and finished sixth at the Rebel Beach Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Spanish Trail Country Club (par 72/6,400 yards).

Holzmann registered her second straight top-10 showing by firing a 5-over-par 221 to claim ninth place in the 74-player field. The junior from San Antonio bounced back from a 75 in her opening round on Monday with a 74 in the second round followed by an even-par 72 that featured a trio of birdies and an eagle on the 510-yard, par-5 18th hole. The reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Week now owns five career top 10s with four in her last six outings dating back to last season.

Gonzalez was two shots behind her teammate in a tie for 12th with a 223. The senior from Monterrey, Mexico, matched Holzmann's 72 in her final round on the strength of four birdies after opening with a 74-77—151. The three-time all-conference honoree paced UTSA and ranked sixth in the field with 11 birdies for the week.

The Roadrunners carded a final-round 298 to move from eighth place and into sole possession of sixth on the final day of the 54-hole tournament. UTSA finished with an 898, four strokes in front of host UNLV and only two shots behind New Mexico for fifth.

Camryn Carreon tied for 23rd with a 227. The sophomore from San Antonio carded rounds of 77, 74 and 76 to notch her fourth consecutive top-25 finish.

Nicole Polivchak was on stroke behind Carreon in a tie for 31st with a 228 (74-76-78), while Katia Mexsen tied for 40th with a season-best 231 (77-76-78).

Tulsa captured the team title with an 887, followed by Fresno State (889), Gonzaga (893) and Iowa (895).

Fresno's Brigitte Thibault won the individual crown with a 5-under 211 (72-70-70).

The Roadrunners will return home to host the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational on March 9-10 at San Antonio Country Club.
