Tapia earns Preseason All-Conference recognition

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA senior Jonathan Tapia has been named to the 2022 Conference USA Preseason All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Tapia, a utility player, batted .295 with 43 hits and 24 RBI last season. He also boasted a .425 OBP last season, which ranked top 20 in Conference USA, as he drew 22 walks and was hit by pitch 14 times.

The San Antonio native has started 122 games for the Roadrunners over four seasons. Tapia is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member.

Tapia joins Bryan Arias (2018/19) and Nick Thornquist (2020) as Roadrunners who were voted to the preseason All-Conference team in the past five seasons.

UTSA was also voted sixth in the preseason conference ranking, as voted on by coaching staffs. This is UTSA's highest preseason ranking since the 2016 season when the Roadrunners were also picked sixth.

The Roadrunners will open their 2022 campaign this Friday, February 18, at Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas in their opening series.
