New Mexico posts 4-1 win over women’s tennis

SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA women's tennis saw graduate student Mariah Plauth earn a singles win but the University of New Mexico claimed a 4-1 win over the Roadrunners to complete a three-match swing through New Mexico, on Sunday afternoon at the Estes Tennis Center.

UTSA (2-2) fell to the host New Mexico (3-2), snapping a two-match winning streak during the stretch, which included wins over Cameron and Abilene Christian.

Plauth (Florianopolis, Brazil) won her singles match in the second spot, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Jasmin Starr (Templestowe, Victoria, Australia) and junior Laura Cabrera (Barcelona, Spain) had their singles matches halted after UNM clinched, with Cabrera leading in the decisive third and Starr just shy of forcing a third set.

In doubles, UTSA used Starr and Kylee Kato (Kahului, Hawaii) in the lead role, Plauth and Cabrera at No. 2 and Charleen Tiwari (Perth, Australia) and Sophie Omoworare (Plano, Texas) in the third spot.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Thursday, venturing to Beaumont to take on Lamar at 10 a.m.
