ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The UTSA women's tennis team opened its three-match trip to New Mexico with a 4-0 win over Cameron, on Friday at the Estes Tennis Center on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
"I thought we started doubles off really well," head coach Ki Kroll. "Everyone was fired up and ready to go. We were aggressive which always makes for great doubles. When we went into singles everyone kept their focus. We played well today and everyone made good progress. I'm happy for players. Good to get a win under our belt."
UTSA (1-1) earned doubles wins behind Jasmin Starr (Templestowe, Victoria, Australia) and Kylee Kato (Kahului, Hawaii) (6-2) and Diya Minon (Plano, Texas) and Sophie Omoworare (Plano, Texas) (6-2).
In singles, Menon won 6-1, 6-2, with Starr posting a 6-2, 6-2 win, and Laura Cabrera (Barcelona, Spain) earning a 6-3, 6-3 result. Kato (6-5, 5-5), Omoworare (6-3, 5-3) and Mariah Pluath (Florianopolis, Brazil) (6-4, 4-3) each had their matches finished after the 4-0 win.
UTSA will return to action on Saturday, facing Abilene Christian at 1 p.m. CT in Albuquerque, N.M.
