UTSA to head to Bayou City for Conference USA Tournament

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to Houston this weekend to compete at the Conference USA Tournament. The event will be played at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University.

The Roadrunners (3-19) are the No. 8 seed and will open the single-elimination tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday against host and top-seed Rice (20-7). The winner will advance to face either Southern Miss (16-8) or UAB (14-8) at noon on Saturday.

The other side of the bracket features second-seeded and No. 44 Old Dominion (19-4) against Florida Atlantic (9-12) and No. 3 seed Middle Tennessee (16-9) versus six-seed Charlotte (12-7). The championship match is slated for 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The opening-round contest against the No. 26-ranked Owls is a rematch of last year's conference tournament final where the Roadrunners scored a 4-2 victory to claim their first C-USA Championship. That marked UTSA's fifth overall and second league tournament title and it led to the program's fourth NCAA postseason appearance.

Rice won the last meeting with the Roadrunners, 4-0, on Feb. 28 at the C-USA Pod in Houston, and the Owls lead the all-time series, 16-4.

UTSA also dropped 4-2 decisions to Southern Miss and UAB on Feb. 27 at the C-USA Pod.
