SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its second season of Conference USA action at 7 p.m. on Friday night when it will face Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Roadrunners (5-5) will look to improve on a 16-12 all-time mark in conference openers. UTSA won its inaugural C-USA game last season with a 90-81 triumph over Marshall.
Kaj-Björn Sherman led the Roadrunners with career highs of 21 points and 17 rebounds in Tuesday's win over Cameron. The 7-footer now is averaging 10.2 points and 6.9 rebounds this season to help UTSA rank third in C-USA and 49th in the nation at 75.1 ppg.
Meanwhile, Rice (3-8) will be looking to snap a two-game skid. The Owls are the league's best free throw shooting team and are paced by Seth Gearhart's 15 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
