UTSA women to host annual Ricardo Romo Classic on Friday evening

SAN ANTONIO — The women's cross country program will return to the course for the first time in three weeks on Friday evening when it hosts the annual UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic. The 5,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at the National Shooting Complex off Culebra Road (2 Gass Road; San Antonio, TX 78253).

The Roadrunners will welcome four other Division I schools — Incarnate Word, Prairie View A&M, defending meet champion Texas and Texas Southern — along with non-Division I programs Butler (Kan.) Community College, Southwest Texas Junior College, Sul Ross State, Tarleton State, Texas-Permian Basin, Texas A&M-International, Texas Lutheran and Trinity to the meet and nearly 100 student-athletes will make up the field.

Admission is free and directions to the course can be found in the related links box toward the top right of this release.

Stephanie Wangui raced to the first individual title of her career and she led UTSA's six-woman contingent at the season-opening Alamo City Opener back on Aug. 29. The senior from Leander covered the 4,000-meter trail in 14:46.95 to top the field 20 Division I runners and she was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week following her performance.
