IRVING — Stephanie Wangui was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Wangui raced to the first individual title of her career and she led UTSA's six-woman contingent at Friday's season-opener Alamo City Opener. The senior from Leander covered the 4,000-meter trail in 14:46.95 to top the field 20 Division I runners and lead the Roadrunners at the season-opening meet.
UTSA will be back in action in two-and-a-half weeks when it hosts the annual Ricardo Romo Classic on Friday, Sept. 19.
