Wallin named Southland Conference Player of the Week

Senior Nathalie Wallin has won 10 singles matches in a row.

FRISCO ? UTSA senior Nathalie Wallin was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Wallin went undefeated in three matches last week and improved her winning streak in singles play to an impressive 10 matches.

The Stockholm, Sweden, native collected wins in both singles and doubles at Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday. Wallin earned her 10th consecutive singles victory when she defeated Audrey Chelini, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 2 matchup. That win came after she teamed up with junior Holly Phillips to win at No. 3 doubles,  8-2. The two victories helped give the Roadrunners the 7-0 victory against the Lady Lions, who saw their conference winning streak come to an end at 40 matches.

A day earlier, she rallied against Nicholls’ Natalia Zomora, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5, at the No. 2 singles spot. The first-set loss was the only dropped frame for Wallin during her current winning streak.

The Roadrunners (7-4, 2-0 SLC) return to the court this weekend with a pair of conference matches against Central Arkansas on Saturday morning and Northwestern State the following day.
