Senior Kyle Collins turned in a 73-68=141 and stands in third place of the

individual standings at the Mean Green Classic after day one action. The

Roadrunners carded a 304 in the first round, but bounced back with 290 in the

second to tally a 594 team total, which is good enough for seventh.

“I thought we started off a little shaky in the first round,

but were able to rebound with a solid performance in the second round.” head

coach John Knauer said. “After the first round, we came together to discuss

some things for the next 18 holes. I think the guys responded well in the

second round and put us in contention for tomorrow’s final round. Kyle put

together two good rounds by being patient, and he connected on several birdies to

finish in third place as he closed out his day.”

Collins shot a 73 in the first round, but regrouped with a 68

in the second round and trails SamHoustonState’s

Scott Kelly and Arkansas-Little Rock’s Dylan Raines by one stroke in the

individual standings.

Freshmen Payne Wilkie and Lewis Chung, who were making their

collegiate debut, had a solid day. Wilkie fired a 77-73=150 and is tied for 29th

place, while Chung is tied for 34th with a 151 tally. Meanwhile, juniors

Phillip Hui and Emiliano Martinez both turned in a day-one total of 155.

UTSA concludes the Mean Green Classic tomorrow morning with

the final 18 holes.
