SAN ANTONIO - UTSA junior Jenny Garcia has been named Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for her performance against Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend, the league office announced Monday.
Garcia batted .700 (7-for-10) with eight runs batted in, seven runs scored, three home runs, zero strikeouts, a 1.600 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage in helping UTSA sweep a three-game series at Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend.
In the opener, Garcia went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in a 10-1 UTSA run-ruling. In the nightcap (13-1 victory), she was 3-for-4 with another three-run dinger, four runs scored and a stolen base. In the 4-1 finale on Sunday, Garcia was 2-for-3 with her third home run of the series, two runs scored and two driven in. Her three multiple-RBI games give her eight this year and she now is batting .358 with seven home runs and 25 RBI.
Garcia is the fifth Roadrunner chosen as Hitter or Pitcher of the Week as junior Jessica Rogers and sophomore Ursula Mares swept both honors on Feb. 15 and seniors Jennifer Davis and Krystal Gibson were tabbed Hitters of the Week on March 8 and 28, respectively.
Texas State's Katie Ann Trahan was named SLC Pitcher of the Week after earning two wins and a save last week.
The Roadrunners travel to Corpus Christi for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday, April 6.
