Andrade wins UTSA/Sonterra Invitational singles championship

Final Bracket

SAN ANTONIO - Senior Dennis Andrade continued his torrid fall play, winning the singles championship at the 2004 UTSA/Sonterra Men's Tennis Invitational held at the UTSA Tennis Center.

Andrade came from behind to score a 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Marcus Lunt of Tyler Junior College. Andrade capped a busy week with the impressive victory. Earlier in the week he had teamed with Ricardo Almeida to reach the quarterfinals at the ITA Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.

"We are all pleased and excited with the way Dennis has been playing," said coach Dr. Oliver Trittenwein. "With three years of collegiate experience he has been able to use that his advantage to take his game to the next level. His win today marks the first time we have ever had a player win a championship at our own invitational, so that as well is exciting for our program."

In the doubles championship, Texas A&M's Dash Connell and Zack Malmgren scored an 8-6 victory over Sergio Gonzales and Guillaume Tonelli of Tyler.
