SAN ANTONIO — UTSA cruised to a 6-1 home victory against Laredo Community College on Saturday.
The Roadrunners (2-0) took control early for the second day in a row with a sweep of the doubles session.
Senior Micaela Silva and junior Vivian Carrillo netted an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot, while juniors Natalie Hand and Kavya Menon also dispatched of their opponents at the No. 3 position, 8-1. Senior Stefanie Peana and sophomore Isabelle Jonsson wrapped up the sweep with an 8-6 triumph against Barbora Bozkova and Jennifer Bettancourt at the top spot.
Freshman Irene Gandara Gonzalez pushed UTSA's lead to 2-0 with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Maria Brizuela at No. 6 singles.
The Palominos (0-1) picked up their first and only point when Bozkova defeated Peana in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at the top singles flight.
However, UTSA responded, as Jonsson earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bettancourt at second singles and Menon clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Pamela Cordova at the fourth position.
The Roadrunners wrapped up the final two singles tilts with straight-set triumphs.
UTSA continues its season-opening home stand on Friday, Feb. 10, against Texas-Pan American. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
