UTSA leads after first day of Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. — UTSA fired an opening-round 298 on Friday and the Roadrunners sit atop the teamleaderboard at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, which is being played atForest Hills Country Club.

Senior Shannon Jungman led the way with a 73, which has the Pflugerville native in a tie for third place. She started her round by shooting two-over-par on the front nine before a pair of birdies anda one-under score on the back nine.

Senior Summer Batisteand sophomores Fabiola Arriaga and Taylor Newlin each shot rounds of 75 to tiefor 12th. Batiste recorded three birdies, while Newlin's round was highlightedby an eagle on the par five, 535-yard 11th hole and Arriaga's round included birdieson Nos. 9 and 11.

Junior Paola Valerio rounded out the UTSA lineup with apair of birdies en route to a 78.

UTSA, which is coming off a 40-stroke victory at last month's Islanders Classic, holds a one-shot lead over host AugustaState and No. 31 Purdue, who are tied for second at 299. Meanwhile, Purdue's Kishi Sinhacarded a 70 to top the individual ledger.

The tournament continues on Saturday with the second round.
