SAN ANTONIO — Head volleyball coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff announced her program's 2012 schedule on Thursday.
The 28-match ledger is highlighted by 14 home tilts, seven contests against teams that finished among the top 70 in RPI a year ago, two 2011 NCAA Tournament teams and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament in San Antonio.
"We are excited to embark on a new challenge this fall," said Neugebauer-Groff, who enters her 11th season at the helm this fall. "We have continued to be aggressive in scheduling quality opponents. We also have a new challenge presented to us by competing in the WAC this season, but we hope it all sets up for us to make another run at the postseason."
UTSA begins its campaign at the Blue Raider Bash on Aug. 24 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., where it will face Furman, UAB and host Middle Tennessee, a team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season last season.
The Roadrunners then open their home schedule with a non-conference contest against Rice (Aug. 28) before hosting Belmont and UTEP in the three-day UTSA Classic (Aug. 30-Sept. 1) at the Convocation Center.
UTSA then hits the road for a pair of contests at Houston (Sept. 7) and Houston Baptist (Sept. 10).
The Birds return to the Alamo City on Sept. 13 to open their inaugural WAC schedule with Utah State and welcome San Jose State to the Convocation Center two days later. The Roadrunners close out their four-match home stand with another non-conference tilt with Houston Baptist (Sept. 18) and I-35 rival Texas State three days later.
The squad's first road conference matches will take place at Seattle (Sept. 27) and Idaho (Sept. 29) before another two-match home stint against Louisiana Tech (Oct. 4) and UT Arlington (Oct. 6).
UTSA then will embark on a four-match road trip that includes tilts at New Mexico State (Oct. 11), Denver (Oct. 13), Utah State (Oct. 15) and Texas State (Oct. 21).
The rest of the league slate includes home matches against Idaho (Oct. 25), Seattle (Oct. 27), Denver (Nov. 8) and New Mexico State (Nov. 10) and road contests against UT Arlington (Nov. 1), Louisiana Tech (Nov. 3) and San Jose State (Nov. 16).
The Roadrunners will host the eight-team WAC Tournament from Nov. 19-21 at the Convocation Center.
