FRISCO — Freshman Joel Rubio was named Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Rubio collected three victories last week, including two doubles tilts with senior Daniel Moser.
The Arneda, Spain, native teamed with Moser at the No. 3 doubles spot for an 8-5 win last Friday against a duo from Wichita State. Later in the day, he netted his first career singles victory with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) victory against Juan Estenssoro at the No. 5 spot.
A day later, Rubio and Moser rolled to another 8-5 victory at the third doubles position over a team from Air Force Rubio fell short of a perfect week, as Air Force's Alex Grubbs topped him in straight sets in the No. 4 singles matchup.
UTSA (0-3) returns to action on Saturday at Louisiana-Lafayette.
