SAN ANTONIO — Head coach Larry Coker announced Friday that linebacker Robert Singletary has transferred from Baylor. Already enrolled in summer courses at UTSA, the Kingwood native must sit out the 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Roadrunners beginning next fall.
Singletary is coming off a redshirt freshman campaign with the Bears that saw him appear in all 13 games, exclusively on special teams. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder racked up two tackles on the season, with his first coming against Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 17) and the other at the Valero Alamo Bowl victory against Washington (Dec. 29).
"Robert is a talented player who brings valuable FBS experience into our program," Coker said. "He will help us meet our needs at an important position as we move into Conference USA in 2013."
He was a three-year starter at Kingwood High School under head coach Dougald McDouglad. Singletary earned second-team All-District 19-5A honors as a senior after registering 95 stops, a pair of sacks, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in his first season at linebacker. He played wide receiver and tight end the previous year and also was a three-year starter on the basketball squad.
Born March 18, 1992, in El Paso, he is the son of Clem and Carmen Singletary and his older brother, Mike, was an All-Big 12 basketball performer at Texas Tech from 2007-11.
