LUBBOCK — Junior Kayla Pratt and sophomore Grace Williamson both raced to first-place finishes on Friday evening to highlight UTSA's opening day of action at the Texas Tech Invitational.

Pratt cruised to her gold medal in the 5,000 meters. The 2010 Southland Conference Champion won in a time of 19:05.74, which was nearly 13 seconds better than her nearest competitor. Running in the event for the first time in nearly 23 months, the Del Rio native posted her third consecutive 5k triumph dating back to the 2010 campaign and she now has won four of her five career races.

Meanwhile, Williamson clocked a 3:01.64 in winning the 1k, as five Roadrunners placed in the top six. Sophomores Nina Herrera (3:02.49), Isabel Balbontin (3:03.00), Samantha Fish (3:04.53) and Alyssa Diaz (3:07.60) finished third through sixth, respectively.

UTSA also received a bronze medal performance from junior Chenale Smith, who cleared 5-5 (1.65m) in the high jump.

The two-day meet concludes on Saturday.
