FRISCO — Sophomore Yannick Junger was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Junger guided the Roadrunners to a 1-1 mark last week after the program achieved its first-ever national ranking at No. 72.
The Stuttgart, Germany, native knocked off Texas' Daniel Whitehead, the nation's No. 69 singles player last Saturday. After dropping the first frame, 7-5, he rallied to sweep the next two, 6-0 and 6-3.
Junger also teamed up with senior Pedro Zanotelli to pick up a doubles victory against St. Edward's last Friday.
UTSA (3-6, 0-1 SLC) returns to the court on Friday when it hosts Texas-Pan American in its Southland Conference home opener.
