FRISCO — Junior Kavya Menon and sophomore Isabelle Jonsson were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic second team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
They are the first Roadrunners to be selected to the circuit's academic teams since 2009.
Jonsson, a second-team all-conference pick at No. 2 singles, led UTSA with a 14-8 record this past spring, including a 9-2 mark against Southland foes. She also teamed up with senior Stefanie Peana to win 10 contests at the top doubles spot. The Eskilstuna, Sweden, native carries a 3.20 GPA in business management.
Meanwhile, Menon, who boasts a 3.65 GPA in business, earned nine victories at No. 4 singles and eight at the second doubles spot with junior Natalie Hand. The Plano native won eight of her nine singles tilts in straight sets.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.00 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
