BOSTON — Sophomore forward Jeromie Hill was named a Lou Henson Preseason All-American, the Lou Henson Player of the Year Award Selection Committee announced on Thursday.

The Cairns, Australia, native is one of 25 players from mid-major conferences on the squad and the only selection from the Southland Conference.

Hill, the 2011 Southland Freshman of the Year and a preseason first-team all-league choice, averaged 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game and shot 47.5 percent from the field, including 42-of-105 (40 percent) from behind the 3-point line, last season.

Hill became the first Roadrunner to record a double-double in his debut with 16 points and 10 boards against Huston-Tillotson and followed that with 27 and 12 against Evansville one game later. He turned in two more double-doubles during his freshman campaign, including 14 and 11 in UTSA’s historic 70-61 victory against Alabama State at the NCAA First Four. Hill, a CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman All-American last year, was named to the 2011 All-Southland Tournament team after averaging 19 points and 5.3 rebounds and knocking down 7-of-8 from downtown to help UTSA upset the top three seeds and capture its first title in seven years.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four. For more information, click here.

Hill and the Roadrunners will host Southeastern Oklahoma State in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m. on Friday before opening the regular season at UTEP at 8 p.m. (CT) next Friday, Nov. 11.
