FRISCO — Sophomore Keyunta Hayes repeated as Southland Conference Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Hayes once again rewrote UTSA's record book after clocking a wind-aided 13.75 in a runner-up finish (top collegian) in the 110-meter hurdles at Saturday’s Longhorn Invitational. That was six ticks faster than the mark he recorded at last week's Texas Invitational and he now holds a 38 one-hundredths-of-a-second advantage in the conference standings (t-13th NCAA).

The Tyler native went on to win the 400m hurdles for the second week in a row, this time in a personal-best time of 50.45, which vaulted him to second place on the school's all-time performance list. The 2011 Southland Champion now has been victorious in the event in three of his last four outings and his league lead now ranks sixth nationally.

He later ran the lead leg of the squad's 1,600m relay that placed second in 3:10.85.

Hayes and his Roadrunners teammates will be back in action at this weekend's Bobcat Classic. The two-day meet begins on Friday and it will be the the squad's final tuneup for the Southland Championships (May 11-13 in San Marcos).
