FRISCO — Junior Kannon Burrage was named Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

In the first round of Dick’s Sporting Good’s NIT Season Tip-Off on Nov. 15, Burrage scored 20 of his team-high 22 points in the second half to help the No. 8 seed Roadrunners rally from a 15-point deficit and score a 78-77 victory sixth-seeded Oral Roberts in Stillwater, Okla.

The 6-2 guard continued his strong second-half performances the following evening, scoring 17 of his 19 points after intermission to help UTSA nearly upset No. 2 seed Oklahoma State in the Midwest Regional Championship.

Burrage averaged 20.5 points and shot 53.8 percent from the floor, including 4-for-8 from downtown, in the two contests.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
