INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Junior Keith Benford will be one of 17 high jumpers to compete on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.
Benford, who is scheduled to begin competition at 4 p.m. (CT), comes into the meet with the nation's 12th-best mark after winning his third consecutive Southland Conference Championship on Feb. 24 in Norman, Okla. The Pflugerville native added an inch to his school record after clearing 7-3 ¼ (2.22m) for the sixth high jump title in program history (all since 2002). He is undefeated in his two outings this season (also victorious at Leonard Hilton Memorial) and the 6-foot-3, 150-pounder has won a total of six meet championships during his illustrious three-year career.
Benford will be making his third appearance at a national meet but first indoors. He became the eighth men's All-American in school history after earning honorable mention accolades at last season's NCAA Outdoor Championships.
This marks the ninth year in a row that the UTSA men have been represented at the NCAA Indoor Championships and Benford will attempt to become the seventh indoor All-American in program history. The previous six all have come since the 2004 campaign.
