FRISCO — Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga was named November's Southland Conference Golfer of the Month, the league office announced on Wednesdsay.
In six rounds, the Torreon, Mexico, native recorded a 71 stroke average and set a new career-best with two rounds of 69.
Arriaga started the month with a career-low 213 (69-72-72) to win The Alamo Invitational, which was played at Briggs Ranch Golf Course from Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Her three-under-par helped UTSA to program records for 18-hole (283) and 54-hole score (866), which shattered the previous standards of 287 and 886, respectively, set at last season's Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
A week later, she matched that effort with another 213 (69-72-72) to tie for second at the season-ending The Challenge at Onion Creek (Nov. 7-8) and that helped the Roadrunners to the same spot on the team leaderboard.
Arriaga carded eight birdies on the par-70 course and 16 for the month overall.
UTSA will open its spring schedule at the UCF Challenge. The three-day tournament tees off on Feb. 12.
