Baseball to host Texas State on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA baseball team returns to Roadrunner Field on Tuesday night to host I-35 rival Texas State in the second meeting between the two teams this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Roadrunners (7-10) are coming off a road trip that ended with a cancellation of the final game of a three-game set against No. 15 Southern Miss. UTSA dropped the first two games of the Conference USA series, 12-2 and 4-3.

The road trip began with a 5-2 loss against the Bobcats (13-4-1) last Tuesday in San Marcos.

Entering this week, the Roadrunners are hitting .240 as a team. Bryan Arias leads the way with a .286 batting average. Arias and Tony Beam are tied for the team lead with three home runs, while Beam has a team-best 14 RBIs.

The UTSA pitching staff owns a 3.99 ERA and is limiting opponents to a .234 batting average.

Meanwhile, Texas State jumped into the national rankings on Monday at No. 30, according to Collegiate Baseball's Top 30. The Bobcats have won four straight, including a three-game sweep of Appalachian State to open Sun Belt Conference action last weekend.

Tuesday night's meeting marks the 92nd time the two teams have played. Texas State owns a 57-34 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to the 1992 season. The Roadrunners are 19-26 all-time against the Bobcats in San Antonio. Texas State posted an 11-8 victory in the last meeting at the Bird Bath, which took place on May 2, 2017.
