SAN ANTONIO — Tulsa broke open a halftime tie with a 16-4 run to pull away and snap UTSA’s seven-game winning streak, 73-62, in the Conference USA opener for both teams on Wednesday at the Convocation Center.

Kamra King scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second half for UTSA (9-5, 0-1 C-USA) and was joined in double figures by Mannasha Bell with 11. Niaga Mitchell-Cole matched a career-high with 10 rebounds.

Mariah Turner led three Tulsa (7-5, 1-0 C-USA) players in double figures with 16 points. Kelsee Grovey added 15 and Ashley Clark chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.

After building a 7-2 lead and holding the Golden Hurricane without a field goal for the game’s first 4:04, the Roadrunners went on a cold stretch of their own surrendering an 18-2 streak to give Tulsa a 20-9 advantage. UTSA went scoreless for over four minutes of game action during the run.

Mannasha Bell was the key cog in UTSA’s, 8-0, comeback bid accounting for six points and a steal to close the gap to three, 20-17, with 9:29 left in the opening half.

The team’s traded baskets the rest of the half until Mathilde Hergott capitalized on a late turnover by Tulsa to tie the game, 34-34, with 23-seconds left. Niaga Mitchell-Cole delivered the steal and assist on the game-tying bucket.

Bell finished the opening half 5-of-6 from the field for a team-high 11 points.

Tulsa reversed the momentum the Roadrunners took into halftime opening the second half on a 16-4 run and UTSA could not recover.

The Birds shot 30-percent over the final 20 minutes while the visiting Golden Hurricane caught fire connecting on 52 percent of their field goal attempts. Tulsa also shot 23 free throws in the final half compared to 11 for the Roadrunners.

UTSA will play its first C-USA road game Saturday at Southern Mississippi (12-2, 1-0 C-USA). Tip is set for 3 p.m.
