COLLEGE STATION — Nathan Collier successfully defended his mile crown to highlight the UTSA men's track & field team at Saturday's season-opening Texas A&M Reveille Invitational.

The senior from Pottsboro clocked a personal-best 4:14.36 to top the 11-man field and he defeated runner-up Drevan Anderson Kaapa (Houston) by more than three-and-a-half minutes. Collier now stands fourth on the program's all-time performance list. He later placed fifth (15:55.67) in the first 5,000 meters race of his career.

Meanwhile, Andrew Akens finished second in the shot put with a measurement of 53-6 ¼ (16.31m) and Taylor Reed was third in the pole vault (16-0/4.88m) for the squad's other podium finish.

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Jan. 11 at the Houston Opener.
