SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men’s basketball coach Brooks Thompson announced Tuesday that he has signed Austin Karrer (New Braunfels, Texas/Canyon HS), James Ringholt (Rockhampton, Australia/Brisbane Boys’ College) and Christian Wilson (Baton Rouge, La./Notre Dame Prep) to National Letters of Intent during the recent early signing period.
"We are extremely pleased with the quality of young men who will be joining our program for the 2014-15 season," Thompson said. "I am very happy with the efforts of our staff to be able to sign three very good high school players that will help us be competitive next year and for years to come. We feel that these young men are great additions to our program and we look forward to seeing them in UTSA uniforms next season."
Below is a breakdown of this fall's signing class.
Austin Karrer · 6-3 · 175 · Guard
New Braunfels, Texas (Canyon HS)
Attends Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas, and plays for head coach Brad Lacey … through the first four games of his senior season, he led the team at 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and registered a season-high 21 points against San Antonio Southside … earned first-team All-District 25-5A honors as a junior last season after averaging 10.4 points per game and led the team with 49 3-pointers … named to the River City Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 10 points per game as the squad went 4-0 in the event … helped the Cougars to an 18-16 record and a spot in the bi-district finals … as a sophomore he helped lead the team to a 25-11 overall record, including a 10-2 district mark … after a runner-up finish in the district, Canyon won two playoff games before falling in the regional quarterfinals that season.
James Ringholt · 6-10 · 210 · Center
Rockhampton, Australia (Brisbane Boys’ College)
Attends Brisbane Boys’ College in Brisbane, Australia … this season he averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks per game … represented Queensland at the U16 and U18 National Championships … was a member of the National Performance Program, which was run by Basketball Queensland in accordance with Basketball Australia in 2012 and 2013 … in 2012, was invited to attend Basketball Without Borders Asia Camp that was run by FIBA and the NBA.
Christian Wilson · 6-2 · 180 · Guard
Baton Rouge, La. (Notre Dame Prep)
Attended Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., during the fall 2013 semester … last played at Cathedral City High School in Cathedral City, Calif., for head coach Ron Hanmer in 2012-13 … averaged 33 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals per game for the Lions and earned first-team All-Desert Valley League honors … totaled 96 points in his first two contests of the season, including a school-record 53 points in a win over Palo Verde Valley … added 10 assists, six rebounds and six steals in that contest as well … spent the 2011-12 season at Zachary High School in Zachary, La., under head coach Bakari Beckwith … earned first-team All-District 4-5A honors.
